As far as skill names go I can do without the "funny" ones. I has blissfully forgotten MC Hammer ever existed but now will be constantly reminded unless I stop playing.
Yeah, I agree the first paragon skill I saw that was a funny quote I thought was pretty funny. I think it was "Its just a flesh wound" or something. But I could do without "Can't touch this". MC hammer gives me nightmares. :'[

I don't know, it's starting to wear thin... It's like every 2 seconds there's the game slaps some reference to some pop-culture internet humor, or some not-so-subtle play on words.... kinda like that guy everyone knows in highschool who can't take anything seriously, thinks he's the funniest thing since Jon Stewart, and is in your face all the time telling jokes.

Not to mention a lot of the skill names are turning this game into a joke. Call me hyper-serious here, but I guess I just like my humor a little more sophisticated and subtle.

oh well, just my .02
I wish I could go to humor academy, so I could learn to appreciate sophisticated and subtle humor like you.:-/

Wow... I totally disagree. I thought plenty of the quests have been pretty funny, but the actual missions and main quests are serious and to the point. I fail to see how the previous chapters where better. GWP and GWF where melodramatic, pathethic, and overly serious. It was embarrasing to listen to the characters speak. NOTHING is worse than some fantasy game that takes itself to seriously.

That is exactly why WoW has 7 million players. Because it ends the tension with also having humor.

But seriously.. what did you expect? How many "comedy games" have there ever been. This kind of thread is also bound to be flame central.

Please post whatever sort of humor, stand up comedians, comedy films and tv shows, you think is funny and I gaurentee you that people will reign down on you as fire and dismiss whatever you think as funny, as incompetent, childish, clichee and retarded. Don't even try to make an argument of what funny humor is.

NF has so much superior writing, story telling, cut scenes, voice acting, dialouge and so on, that I can't help but dismiss this as a troll attempt, or unfounded reasons to flame NF. No offence.

Actually your post is more of a troll attempt than the OP's.The OP wasn't trying to define what was humor, or discuss what humor was. He was simply stating that there are so many pop-culture references/punny skill names/etc that it kinda gets to ya after awhile. Can you imagine role-playing with someone and suddenly seeing someone walk by with the name XXXIpwnUXX? Would detract from the experience wouldn't it?

In regards to the OP: As long as its contained to the beginners area, I don't mind it. Its fun to see the quest descriptions and stuff, but when it gets to the dark portions of the story, I don't need light-hearted humor to keep off the 'tension'. I'm playing a game after all, thats all the tension remover I need.
I'm just glad that Anet kept the puns in the skill names subtle. Quotes from movies like"Never Give Up" and "Never Surrender" actually sound normal if you don't know the reference. The only one that stretches that rule is the "Can't touch this" one. They even removed a portion of the name of Headbutt to keep it that way(I guess).I like to pay close attention to storyline, so as long as it doesn't mess that up, it's ok by me. Hope it doesn't ruin it for you.

But thats just my two cents.

Regions of Nightfall

Istan Starting region, themed after ancient Egypt. Contains port of Kamadan, where travelers from other chapters will start.

Kourna Savannahs and mud huts.

Vabbi Arabic themed with floating mosques and castles, magical fountains and tapestries with flowing text. SPOILER ALERT: This place will be devastated by the "evil god" at some point.

Desolation The poison desert, with sulfer pits. You'll even ride inside giant wurms in this stage to cross the most dangerous parts! (Yes, you control the wurms, getting special "wurm" skills to replace yours!)

Realm of Torment Hell, basically. Promises to look very gory, pushing the "teen" rating. Will be unmappable, as the fog of exploration persists even after you've "explored" a part of the realm.
Realm of Torment doesnt sound light hearted

WoW has 7 million players for the same reason that Windows has 90% of the operating system market.

Quantity is not equal to quality.

Which is not to say that WoW is a bad game (I play it). I just don;t adhere to the gang mentality that more popular = better.

That basically sums up my feelings. Sometimes, the humor is quite refreshing... and I've laughed out loud at some of the dialogue responses "Mothers shouldn't raise pirate children...." or something like that made me laugh in response to the lady who's son was kidnapped by corsairs.
